 OC Cold Weather Armory Emergency Shelter Program

 Upcoming Armory “Dark Nights” – (Santa Ana & Fullerton)

The Orange County Cold Weather Armory Emergency Shelter program provides up to 400 beds per night for the homeless at the National Guard Armories in Fullerton and Santa Ana.  The homeless will receive a nutritious meal, a warm shower, and a safe place to sleep.  Volunteers will pass out donations of warm clothing and Service Providers from Orange County will be onsite to provide needed services.

Armory Locations:

  • Santa Ana Armory – 612 East Warner (Warner / Main)
  • Fullerton Armory – 400 South Brookhurst (Brookhurst / Valencia)

Bus Pick Up Locations: (There will be pick-up at these sites on dark nights)

  • Fullerton:

Pick Up #1 5:00 p.m.
N. La Palma Park Way & Swan, Anaheim
Inside fenced parking lot across from La Palma Park Stadium
 

  • Santa Ana:

Pick Up #1 5:00 p.m.
Flower & Civic Center – near 6th Street, Santa Ana

 

Pick Up #2 5:30 p.m.
Orange County Rescue Mission
1901 N. Walnut, Santa Ana

Dark nights and alternate sites:

The National Guard Armories are not available for use a few nights per month. On these “dark nights,” clients will be sheltered at alternate sites.

Scheduled “dark nights”  for the 2009-2010 season:

January 9, 10; February 19, 20, 21; March 4, 5, 6, 7; April 10, 11

Ontario Temporary Homeless Services Area (THSA)

THSA is an area provided by the City of Ontario that allows 140 permitted residents that can show some sort of ties to Ontario to stay there. There is presently 99 permitted residents that either is staying in one of the tents provided by the city or is living in their own trailers that the city has allowed them to park in the designated area for them.  There are several portable restrooms throughout the camp and two showers (cold runner water only).  here is 4 BBQ pits and several BBQ’s in the area so they can cook.  There is also a Food Container that is in the center of the tented area that allows permitted providers to bring food to distribute to the residents. The camp is closed and no one is allowed to enter from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am.  They have security on sight 24 hours 7 days a week.  Mercy House staff oversees donations and feedings and assist with case management. They provide the homeless with assistance with bus passes when available, hygiene kits, toilet paper, resources to get out of THSA, and various other of items through the walk-in center and by physically going down and distributing the items.
