Volunteer Opportunities at Mercy House

Please review the various volunteer opportunities listed below:
Emergency Services
- Assistant (3-10 hours/week) Open: Mon – Thurs. 9:30-1:00 p.m.
- Hygiene Kits — collect and package hygiene items, such as, shampoo, conditioner, soap, socks, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.
- Sack Lunches — put together sack lunches for the homeless (peanut butter & jelly sandwich or cup-o-noodle soup, chips, drink, fruit/cookie, etc.)
- Pancake Breakfast (outdoor breakfast for up to 100 clients)
- Cleaning
Transitional Shelters
- Teach a Life Skills class on a topic of interest
- Topics: parenting, exercise/meditation, cooking, scrapbooking, resume building, interviewing skills, etc.
- Play hour with children who range in age from newborn-10 yrs. old
- Tuesday’s & Thursday’s from 6:45-8:15pm
- Shelter Cleanings
- Clean the toys in our children’s play area
- Organize a Social Gathering
- Sports Event, BBQ, Holiday party, Outdoor movie night, Musical or dance performance, etc.
- Property maintenance
- Handyman, Construction Projects, Landscape maintenance
- Automobile Repairs
- Hairstylist
- Resident welcome and goodbye packages
Internships
- Life Skills Instructor
- Case Management
- Grant Research & Writing
- Administrative/Fundraising
Special Events
- AIDS Walk, Golf Tournaments, Macy’s Community Shopping Days
- Bulk Mailings
- Holiday Adoption Program
Volunteer Requirements
- Volunteer Application
- Fingerprinting when working with children
- TB testing when working with individuals with HIV and/or AIDS
